What we do here.
SoulDog Wonder Journal is a creative exploration of the things that move us.
Hi, I’m Marika. I’m an artist, photographer, and creative wildling seeking wonder in the things that move us - dogs, nature, art, and each other.
I've been on a journey of healing since my Soul Dog, Kerouac, died in 2021. It's been a wild and emotional adventure in which I've had to say goodbye to a lot of things, a lot of dreams, and a lot of beliefs I thought I would need forever.
Over the past few years, I realized that the spaces I was creating for and sharing my work in (Facebook, Instagram, etc) were no longer bringing me joy. They were making me feel trapped and disconnected from myself.
So I stopped sharing my art there, and began imagining new ways to create the freedom and belonging I longed for. Not just for myself, but for anyone else seeking more wonder in life.
And that’s how SoulDog Wonder Journal has come to exist.
My mission with SoulDog Wonder Journal is to experience and create more wonder in the world through art and stories inspired by dogs we love and places in nature that move us.
What kinds of art and stories to expect here.
There are so many things I’m excited to create through SoulDog Wonder Journal. For now, the plan is to start with three avenues of creative expression. Two of which are part of a monthly series called, The Wonder of Dogs, where I explore a place in nature with a dog and make art inspired by both. There will be two different stories from this series each month.
The first will feature an adoptable dog from a rescue organization located in Washington State. This feature will always be free to the public, so that we can bring more awareness to the work the organization is doing. And help find more homes for the animals in their care. (Every now and then we might focus on a different kind of adoptable animal too).
If you are a rescue organization interested in partnering to make some art & share stories of the animals in your care together, please reach out to me via email (marika@souldogcreative.com).
The second will feature a dog that already has a home. This feature will be accessible to all paid membership levels (Kindred & Patron).

The third creative exploration involves a lot of wildness and wonder. These posts will be mostly focused on personal work. You’ll see new ideas and techniques I’m playing with. You’ll read essays and poetry and listen to audio and watch video as I’m exploring all kinds of outlets for experiencing and creating more wonder in the world. These posts will vary in accessibility (some will be public, some for all members, and some for paid members only).
I'm currently scheduling the first sessions for The Wonder of Dogs series, and plan to share the first feature in May 2024.
This is a member-supported space, meaning, your membership helps me to be able to create more art, more connection, and more wildness. There is a free membership option available for you to experience some of what is created here, and multiple paid options that give you more access to art, stories, inspiration, and connection with the community.
Membership options:
Free - Join SoulDog Wonder Journal as a free member, and be notified of new posts (sometimes you’ll receive an email when a new story or artwork has been published, other times you’ll receive an email with a roundup of recent posts). You’ll have access to all free subscriber and public posts.
Kindred ($7/month or $70/year) - Join SoulDog Wonder Journal as a Kindred member, and in addition to the perks of the free membership, you’ll have access to the monthly series, The Wonder of Dogs, access to posts that have been added to the Archive, and you can join the conversation on all posts with comments open. Also, from time to time, there will be posts made just for paying members.
Patron ($17/month or $170/year) - Love the work being done through SoulDog Wonder Journal? With the Patron membership, you get all the same perks as the Kindred membership, but with the added bonus of knowing your extra financial support helps me create more art and stories that make a difference in the world. Especially for rescue animals.
Whether you sign up to be a Kindred, Patron, or join via the free membership option, your support is deeply appreciated. Life is wild and full of so much wonder. Moving through it together, sharing our journeys through art and conversation is how we can heal and make the world a more loving place.
Thank you for being here.
